Born from a campus reshuffle, grown into a model school.
Xuanxin Elementary opened on September 23, 1957, founded to absorb students displaced when Linsen Elementary's original site was given over to the new Taiwan Provincial Chiayi Normal School (today's National Chiayi University). It opened with 1,237 students across 21 classes, at first borrowing classrooms from Minzu Elementary before its own buildings were ready. Enrollment peaked at 2,974 students in 58 classes in 1973, and the school was designated a county "model school" that same era, even hosting a 1980 visit from Premier Sun Yun-suan and President Chiang Ching-kuo.
