Xiulin Junior High School

Despite its name, Xiulin Junior High is administratively located in Xincheng Township, not Xiulin Township — a naming quirk tied to the region's Truku Indigenous geography rather than current administrative boundaries. With a student body that is over 90% Truku, the school operates a residential support program for disadvantaged students and, in 2024, won a national award for its "mountain root-seeking" curriculum, which retraces the ancestral migration routes of the Truku people back into the mountains.

儘管校名為「秀林」，秀林國中實際上位於新城鄉，而非秀林鄉——這個命名上的巧合，反映了太魯閣族傳統地理範圍與現行行政區劃之間的落差。學校學生九成以上為太魯閣族，設有弱勢學生住宿扶助方案，並於2024年以「返鄉尋根」課程榮獲全國性獎項，該課程帶領學生重返山林、追溯太魯閣族祖先的遷徙路線。
