A century-old bond with a historic fishing village.

Xishu Elementary School began in February 1949 as a branch of Shenggong National School and became independent that August as "Tainan City South District Xishu National School," under its first principal, Chen Guang-xu. Its earliest classes were held in a farmers' association building and the local village office, before four wooden classrooms were completed in April 1950. The school sits inside Xishu (喜樹), one of Tainan's historic fishing villages, now known across the city for its community mural art and restored old street. The Tainan Public Library's Xishu branch operates on or near the school site, tying the campus into the village's ongoing cultural revival.
