Independent since Taiwan's compulsory-education era.
Xinyuan Junior High originated as a branch of Donggang Junior High School before becoming an independent, separately named school in 1968, alongside the nationwide rollout of nine-year compulsory education. The school held its first athletic meet in 1971, an early milestone in its history as an independent institution. Located on the alluvial plain formed where the Gaoping River and Donggang River meet the sea, it serves the farming families of Xinyuan Township, an area known for rice, banana, and fruit cultivation as well as fish and shrimp aquaculture.
