A century-old school on reclaimed fishpond land.
Xinwen Elementary School was founded in 1922, and celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2022 with a commemorative fun run, "Running for Xinwen's Centennial." The school has produced a notably strong list of alumni for such a small coastal community, including a Judicial Yuan Justice, a National Assembly delegate, and several legislators and councilors. Today it teaches computational thinking with Scratch and micro:bit, offers indigenous-language instruction, and emphasizes energy-conservation environmental education, alongside distance-learning infrastructure with online meeting rooms and showcases of the campus's plant life.

Built on reclaimed fishpond terrain.
Xinwen Village is a historic milkfish and oyster aquaculture community on Budai's tidal flats, and the "New Wen" (新塭, literally "new lagoon/pond") place-name itself reflects the reclaimed fishpond terrain the school sits on — a name that carries the area's aquaculture history in every mention. See the Chiayi county page for more on the region.
