Xinshi Junior High School was established in July 1968, with construction beginning on April 20 of that year and the school opening that July with five incoming classes. Located in Xinshi's Gangqian neighborhood on Minzu Road, the school later added a remedial and continuing-education program in 1993, an art class in 1997, and a resource class in 2002, expanding its offerings over the following decades.
新市國中創立於民國57年（1968年）7月，同年4月20日開工興建，7月開學招收五個新生班級。學校位於新市港墘里民族路上，之後陸續於民國82年（1993年）增設補校，民國86年（1997年）成立美術班，民國91年（2002年）設置資源班，逐步擴充辦學規模。
