A century of schooling under four eras.
Xinpo Elementary dates to 1923, when local residents Jiang Jing-liu, Jiang Jing-kao, and Jiang Jing-yuan donated land, together with a Japanese colonization company, for a branch teaching post called “觀音公學校新坡分教場.” The school became independently established as “新坡公學校” in 1928. It has been renamed multiple times across Taiwan's regime changes — from the Japanese-era 公學校, to 新坡國民學校 in 1941, to Hsinchu County Guanyin Township Xinpo National School after the 1945 retrocession, and finally to its present-day Taoyuan municipal name. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary and recently completed a north-building (北棟校舍) reconstruction to modernize aging facilities.
What makes this school worth knowing.
🏛️ One of Guanyin's Oldest Schools
觀音區歷史最悠久學校之一
Tracing back to the Japanese colonial “公學校” system in 1923, Xinpo is one of the very oldest schools in Guanyin District, having marked its 100th anniversary.
🌿 A Branch School of Its Own
分出北野分教場
Xinpo spun off its own branch school in 1941 (北野分教場), which became independent as 北野國民學校 in 1944 — a chain of educational growth that started with this campus.
🏗️ Modernized for a New Century
北棟校舍重建
The school recently underwent a north-building (北棟校舍) reconstruction project, modernizing aging facilities while carrying forward more than a century of continuous operation.
A living record of Guanyin's transitions.
As a century-old school founded under Japanese rule, Xinpo Elementary is a living record of Guanyin's transition from a rural Hakka/Hoklo farming settlement, through colonial administration, to today's industrial-coastal district. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
