The mother school of Zhongli.

Xinjie Elementary traces its history to 1934, when it began as a satellite classroom of Zhongli Elementary School, becoming independent in April 1936 as "Zhongli No. 2 Public School." In April 1941, it was renamed "Shirakawa Elementary School" (白川國民學校) after Prince Kitashirakawa-no-miya Yoshihisa, a Japanese imperial prince who had camped in the area during Japan's 1895 military takeover of Taiwan. After Taiwan's retrocession, the school was renamed again, eventually settling on "Xinjie" in 1950 and taking its current administrative name after Taoyuan's 2014 city upgrade. Over 90 years old, Xinjie functions as the historic "mother school" of the district — Neili, Xinyi, and Zhongfu elementary schools all originally split off from it.

👑

Xinjie Elementary's 1941 renaming after Prince Kitashirakawa-no-miya Yoshihisa is a specific, documented piece of Zhongli's colonial-era history — a reminder that the prince passed through this area during Japan's 1895 military takeover of Taiwan. Few school names in the district carry such a direct, traceable link to a single historical event.
