It remains one of Houbi's smallest schools, with roughly six general classes plus one kindergarten class and around 86 students in recent years.
新嘉國小創校於民國54年（1965年），校地1.1公頃，座落於八掌溪畔的新嘉里，四周為農田環繞的偏遠聚落。至今仍是後壁區規模最小的學校之一，約有普通班6班、幼兒園1班，近年學生人數約86人。
