About · 學校簡介

Taiwan's first national arts high school.

National Xingang Senior High School of Arts was officially established on August 1, 2006, as Taiwan's first national ("國立") senior high school dedicated entirely to the arts. Its preparatory office was approved in 2001, and an unveiling ceremony was held in December 2003, presided over by then-President Chen Shui-bian. While its purpose-built Xingang campus was under construction, the school was temporarily housed at National Chiayi University's Linsen campus, finally moving into its permanent home in 2008. Today it remains an intentionally small school, with roughly 217 to 259 students across about 15 classes studying music, fine arts, dance, and drama.

Local Culture · 在地文化

Xingang, home of the Matsu pilgrimage.

🏮

Xingang Township is the seat of the famous Fengtian Temple (奉天宮) and its annual Matsu pilgrimage (刈火), one of Taiwan's most important folk-religious festivals. This deep well of folk-art and temple-arts heritage — embroidery, temple painting, and ritual performance — runs directly through the township, and National Xingang Senior High School of Arts channels that same creative energy into a formal, modern arts education. See the Chiayi County page for more on the region.
