From two borrowed classrooms to a township anchor.
Xincheng Junior High began in 1964 as a branch of Ji'an Junior High, opening with only about 80 students who borrowed two classrooms from nearby Beipu Elementary School. It became an independent school in 1968. Since then, the school has built a strong indigenous-language program, offering certification courses in both Amis and Truku — a reflection of the mixed indigenous communities living around the Taroko Gorge gateway that Xincheng Township occupies.
