A century beside Ximending.

Ximen Elementary School was founded in 1915 as Taipei No. 5 Ordinary Elementary School, originally serving only Japanese children with 12 classes and more than 600 students. It was renamed Taipei Jocho Ordinary Elementary School later that same year, began admitting Taiwanese students in 1920, and was renamed again in 1922 as Taipei Kotobuki Ordinary Elementary School, by then with 23 classes. After further administrative changes following 1945 and 1990, the school took its current name, Ximen National Elementary School. In 2015 the school celebrated its centennial with a "Ximen's Pride" (西門之光) award ceremony honoring distinguished alumni. Sitting directly beside Ximending, Taipei's old entertainment and commercial quarter that grew up around the historic West Gate of the walled city, Ximen Elementary is one of the longest continuously operating schools tied to that district's identity.

🎭

Ximen Elementary sits directly beside Ximending (西門町), Taipei's old entertainment and commercial quarter that grew up around the historic West Gate of the walled city. Ximending shares Wanhua's deeper roots in Bangka (艋舺), also known as Monga, whose historic core lies a bit farther south around Longshan Temple (龍山寺) and the traditional shops of Herb Lane (青草巷) — together, Ximending and old Bangka trace the full span of Wanhua's identity from religious old town to modern youth culture hub.
