From municipal junior high to bilingual experimental school.
Taipei Municipal Xihu Experimental Junior High School was founded in 1987 as Taipei Municipal Xihu Junior High School (臺北市立西湖國民中學). The school transitioned into a bilingual experimental curriculum during the 2020–21 academic year, and in August 2022 it was formally redesignated as an experimental education institution, changing its name from Xihu Junior High to Xihu Experimental Junior High and dropping the "municipal/立" designation in the process. Its school motto, "Optimism and Progress; Cultivate Virtue, Strive to Learn" (樂觀進取 敦品勵學), continues to guide the renamed school.
西湖實驗國中創立於民國76年（1987年），原名「臺北市立西湖國民中學」。學校於109學年度（2020年）轉型為雙語實驗課程，並於民國111年（2022年）8月正式改制為實驗教育機構，校名由「西湖國中」改為「西湖實驗國中」，同時去除「市立」二字。校訓「樂觀進取 敦品勵學」，至今仍指引著改制後的學校。
