Xigang's only junior high, built on reclaimed flood-prone ground.
Xigang Junior High began planning in May 1968 under founding principal Shen Zhengfan, with enrollment beginning that September with 383 students across seven classes. It remains the only junior high school in Xigang District. The original campus site included low-lying mud pits and burial grounds that flooded the schoolyard during rain, requiring extensive early landscaping and greening work that made it a model for campus beautification — though the school still suffered severe damage during Typhoon Morakot (八八水災) in 2009. Today it is a small school, with roughly 224 students across three grade levels.

Xigang, home of the triennial King Boat Festival.
Xigang District sits on the low-lying Zengwen River floodplain, a geography reflected in the flood-prone founding site of Xigang Junior High and its Typhoon Morakot damage in 2009. The district is renowned across Taiwan for its own triennial Xigang Wangye's Boat Festival (西港刈香/王船祭), centered on Qing'an Temple (慶安宮) — one of Taiwan's most significant Wangye folk-religion events. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
