A tiny front-mountain school between two scenic areas.
Xiayun Elementary was founded in 1955. It sits in Fuxing's “front mountain” (前山) zone, bordered by the Xiaowulai Scenic Area on one side and the Dongyanshan Forest Recreation Area (東眼山森林遊樂區) on the other, with the Xiayun and Kuzhi streams converging right in front of the campus. The school is very small — 8 classes in total, about 60 students combined with the attached kindergarten's mixed-age classes, and an average teacher age around 40. Its catchment includes the Zhiji, Jiazhi, Kuzhi, and Jinnuan tribal settlements, an area noted for tourism-development potential, and it has been designated a model campus for disaster-preparedness education

🚨 A Disaster-Preparedness Model Campus
The school has been designated a model campus for disaster-preparedness education (特色防災校園), an important distinction for a small mountain community.
Fuxing's “front mountain” Atayal communities.
Wedged between the Xiaowulai and Dongyanshan scenic areas, with two mountain streams converging right in front of the campus, the school is a small but geographically emblematic example of Fuxing's “front mountain” (as opposed to deep mountain) Atayal communities. See the Taoyuan county page for more on the region.
