A school rooted in the district's sugar-farming past.

Xiaogang Junior High began in 1956 as a branch campus of neighboring Linyuan Junior High, with its first classes held in borrowed classrooms at Xiaogang Elementary School. It became an independent school in 1958. Its permanent campus, built in 1957, sat on land leased from the Taiwan Sugar Corporation's Xiaogang sugar refinery — a direct link to the agricultural, sugar-growing economy that once defined this part of Kaohsiung before industrialization transformed the district.

🎋

Before Siaogang became home to Kaohsiung's airport, harbor, and heavy industry, much of the district's land — including Xiaogang Junior High's own campus site — belonged to the Taiwan Sugar Corporation's local refinery operations, a reminder of the sugar-farming economy that shaped this part of Kaohsiung for decades. See the Kaohsiung county page for more on the region.
