Xiaogang Elementary School

Xiaogang Elementary School is the oldest school in Siaogang District, tracing its founding to April 1, 1909, during the Japanese colonial era, when it opened as “鳳山公學校港仔埑分教場,” a branch classroom of Fongshan Public School. It was renamed “港仔埑公學校” in 1920 before eventually taking the Xiaogang name. As the district's first school, its name directly preserves “小港” (“small harbor”) — the tidal inlet that gave the entire district its identity, long before land reclamation reshaped the coastline into the site of Kaohsiung's airport and seaport.

小港國小是小港區歷史最悠久的學校，創校可追溯至1909年（日治明治42年）4月1日，最初為「鳳山公學校港仔墘分教場」，隸屬鳳山公學校的分教場。1920年（大正9年）改稱「港仔墘公學校」，其後才逐漸採用「小港」之名。作為區內第一所學校，其校名直接保留了「小港」（意指「小型港灣」）這個地名——早在填海造陸將海岸線改造為高雄機場與港口用地之前，這正是整個地區得名的潮汐港澳。
