Named for a landmark cave temple.
Xiandong Elementary's roots trace to 1904, when local residents petitioned the Japanese colonial government to establish a branch school; it formally opened on April 1, 1907. The school became independent in 1914, then took its current name and independence again in 1968 after further reorganization. It is named for, and sits next to, Xiandong Rock (仙洞巖), a well-known landmark cave temple near Keelung Harbor's western shore.
