Xiajie Elementary School

Xiajie Elementary School opened on April 1, 1926, during the Japanese colonial era, originally as "Dongshi Public School Xiajizi Branch Station," a branch under Dongshi Public School. Today the school runs a Taiwanese-language illustrated storytelling program called "話山話水畫嘉義" that blends local narrative with art, and it is active in reading promotion and cultural arts competitions, including recent reading-talent and World Mother Language Day art contests. The school also offers indigenous-language education, English learning, information technology education, and maintains anti-bullying and gender-equality initiatives.

下楫國小創立於大正15年（1926年）4月1日日治時期，原名「東石公學校下揖子分教場」，隸屬東石公學校。如今學校推動結合在地敘事與美術的台語繪本說故事課程「話山話水畫嘉義」，並積極參與閱讀推廣與文化藝術競賽，包括近年的閱讀達人競賽與世界母語日美術比賽。學校亦提供本土語言教育、英語學習與資訊科技教育，並持續推動反霸凌與性別平等教育。
