Wenxian Elementary School was established in April 1915 as a branch under the Rende Public School line. It became “Rende Branch School” in 1917, was renamed “Chelujiao National School” in 1945, then “Rende Township's Second National School” in January 1946, “Wenxian National School” in February 1947, and finally “Wenxian Elementary School” in 1968 under nine-year compulsory education. The school shares its name and historical lineage with Rende Wenxian Junior High School, which was itself later founded partly to serve this same catchment area. It is one of the oldest continuously operating schools in Rende, with roots predating World War II.

文賢國小創校於大正4年(1915年)4月,源自仁德公學校體系下的分校。1917年改稱「仁德分教場」,1945年改名「車路墘國民學校」,1946年1月改稱「仁德鄉第二國民學校」,1947年2月改名「文賢國民學校」,1968年九年國教實施後定名「文賢國民小學」。學校與後來設立的仁德文賢國中同名並同源,文賢國中創校部分即是為服務同一學區而設。文賢國小是仁德區歷史最悠久、持續辦學至今的學校之一,校史可追溯至二戰以前。
