Wenguang Junior High was approved for planning in 1994 (ROC 83) and officially opened, enrolling its first students, on August 1, 1998 (ROC 87) — making it Magong's second, newer junior high school. Built on 2.571 hectares of designated education land, the school grew rapidly, expanding to 30 classes within its first decade, and graduated its first class of 209 students in 2009. It has since been recognized by the Ministry of Education as a national Mobile Learning model school and now hosts the Penghu County Education Network Center.
文光國中於民國83年（1994年）獲准籌設，並於民國87年（1998年）8月1日正式開學招生，是馬公市較新設立的第二所國中。校地達2.571公頃，設校後迅速成長，十年內班級數即擴增至30班，並於民國98年（2009年）產生首屆畢業生209人。學校其後獲教育部評選為全國行動學習標竿學校，並設有澎湖縣教育網路中心。
