Wanxing Elementary School's preparatory office was established in 1985, and the school opened in 1987 with an initial 11 classes, on Xiuming Road.

The school is known locally for elaborate campus mural art projects preserving nostalgic corners of the school for alumni, and sits directly adjacent to both National Chengchi University and the Taipei Zoo (木柵動物園).
萬興國小籌備處於1985年（民國74年）成立，1987年（民國76年）正式開校，創校初期設11班，校址位於秀明路。
有別於臺北市許多因少子化而縮編的學校，萬興國小規模持續成長，目前已達約30班，接近校地容納上限。學校以校園壁畫藝術聞名，保留許多懷舊角落供校友回味，校址緊鄰國立政治大學與臺北市立動物園（木柵動物園）。
