From a branch station to its own school.
Wannei Elementary School traces its roots to 1921, when Suantou Public School established a branch station there, upgraded to full branch-school status in 1923. It became independent in 1940 as Wannei Public School during the Japanese colonial era, and was renamed Wannei National School in 1941. Today the school maintains an environmental education website and indigenous/native-language programs, participates in county-level music competitions, and provides online classroom access for every grade level from 1 through 6. Located in Wannan Village, the school has also hosted a fire-rescue special operations team safety demonstration for students.

Part of Suantou's farming and sugar heritage.
