Wanfang Elementary School's preparatory office was established in 1981, and the school formally opened on August 1, 1982, enrolling seven classes under first principal Jian Jincai. It was originally named "Taipei Muzha District Wanfang Elementary School," taking its current name in March 1990 after the Muzha–Jingmei district merger created Wenshan District.
First-phase construction — 32 ordinary classrooms plus three specialty rooms, along with the gate, field, wall, and kitchen — was completed within just one month of opening, in August 1982. The school is designated a Taipei information-technology focus school and was recognized as an "Education 111" benchmark school in 2014.
萬芳國小籌備處於1981年（民國70年）成立，1982年（民國71年）8月1日正式開校，首任校長簡進財，創校初期招收七班。原名「臺北市木柵區萬芳國民小學」，1990年3月隨木柵、景美合併為文山區而更名為現名。
第一期校舍（32間普通教室及3間特別教室，連同校門、操場、圍牆與廚房）在開校僅一個月內即完工。學校為臺北市資訊教育重點學校，並於2014年獲選為「教育111」標竿學校。
