The school that once linked four islands.

Wan'an Junior High was established in 1968 to serve four outer islands — Wang'an, Jiangjun, Dongji, and Qimei — initially operating with four branch classrooms across the archipelago. Its Qimei branch was transferred to Magong Junior High's administration in 1970; the Dongji branch closed in 1974; and the Jiangjun branch became a fully independent school (today's Jiangao Junior High) in 1978. In its early years the school grew quickly, from 4 classes and 149 students at founding to 13 classes and 452 students by 1977, reflecting how central it once was to schooling across this remote group of islands.

🛥️

Wan'an Township is a scattered group of remote outlying islands reachable only by boat. Wan'an Junior High's historical role coordinating schooling across Jiangjun, Dongji, and Qimei reflects how these fishing-island communities once had to share limited educational resources across the water. See the Penghu county page for more on the region.
