Tzu Hui Institute of Technology

Tzu Hui Institute of Technology was founded in August 1964 as the Pingtung County Private Tzu Hui Vocational School of Nursing and Midwifery (屏東縣私立慈惠護理助產職業學校) by Li-Yan Tsai, a former Pingtung County councilor, with the explicit goal of improving community health through nursing training. It was upgraded and renamed Tzu Hui Institute of Technology in August 2000. One nuance worth noting for accuracy: despite its English name "Institute of Technology," the school's official Chinese name uses 專科學校 ("junior college"), meaning it is technically a junior/technical college rather than a full bachelor's-degree-granting university — a different tier from the other universities profiled alongside it in this county. 慈惠醫護管理專科學校創立於民國53年（1964年）8月，前身為「屏東縣私立慈惠護理助產職業學校」，由曾任屏東縣議員的蔡李阿延創辦，宗旨為透過護理教育提升地方社區健康。民國89年（2000年）8月改制升格為慈惠醫護管理專科學校，即現今校名。值得留意的是，雖然英文校名譯為「Institute of Technology」，但校名本身即為「專科學校」，屬於專科層級，而非授予學士學位的大學——與本縣其他所介紹的大學屬於不同學制層級。學校位於南州鄉，鄰近東港與南州交界處，設有護理科、幼兒保育科、物理治療科等八個科系。
