Taoyuan Junior High School

Taoyuan Junior High's preparatory committee formed in 1968, and the school was formally established in July 1969. In 1980 the county government designated it a specialized long-term training school for track-and-field athletes, a program that shaped student life for years. The school lost enrollment to its own attendance zone after Zhongxing Junior High opened nearby in 1980, and it was renamed to Taoyuan Municipal in the December 2014 reorganization. As the school that carries the city's own name, it sits near Juguang Street in the historic core of old Taoyuan, close to the original Qing- and Japanese-era town center.

桃園國中籌備委員會於民國57年（1968年）成立，並於民國58年（1969年）7月正式設校。民國69年（1980年），縣政府指定該校為田徑選手長期培訓重點學校，該項傳統影響學生生活多年。同年鄰近的中興國中開校後，桃園國中的學區招生受到分流影響。2014年12月隨桃園縣升格直轄市，正式更名為桃園市立桃園國民中學。作為與市名相同的學校，桃園國中緊鄰莒光街，位於清代與日治時期老桃園歷史核心地帶。
