The founding mother school of Longtan.

Longtan Elementary was approved on January 14, 1899, and opened on March 15, 1899, as "Longyuan Public School" (龍元公學校) — over 125 years old and one of the oldest schools in Taoyuan. It was renamed "Taoyuan County Longtan Township Longtan National School" in 1950, then took its present name, Longtan Elementary School, in 1968. The campus contains a protected Japanese-era teachers' dormitory ("龍潭國小日式宿舍"), officially registered as a historic building by Taiwan's Bureau of Cultural Heritage, and is home to a rare, centuries-old banyan tree and over a hundred plant species, making the campus itself a natural ecology-teaching ground.
