Born inside the temple that named the district.
Guanyin Elementary was founded in 1905, seven years before the founding of the Republic of China, under Japanese colonial rule — making it the oldest school in this batch. It opened with only about 60 students (roughly 50 boys and 10 girls); classes were initially held in a rented room at the Ganquan Temple (甘泉寺, also known as Furen Temple) in Shiguanyin, before a permanent campus was built. The school underwent major reconstruction from 1995 to 2001 after a 1994 structural (rebar) defect was discovered in the original buildings, added an on-campus preschool program in 2015, and celebrated its 120th anniversary in 2025.
