A century of names, an unbroken lineage.
Dongshi Elementary began in April 1938 as a satellite classroom of Nanshi Public School — itself the district's oldest school — before becoming independent on April 1, 1943, as "Dongshi National School." Over the following decades the school's name changed repeatedly to track Taiwan's political transitions: it became "Hsinchu County Pingzhen Township Dongshi National School" in 1945 after Japan's surrender, was folded into Taoyuan County in 1950, renamed "Dongshi Elementary School" in 1968, "Pingzhen City Dongshi Elementary School" in 1992, and took its current municipal name in 2014. The school's history is tracked in detail on a dedicated Facebook page marking its 70th-anniversary milestones.
