A century of names, a century of history.
Dalun Elementary was founded in 1919, during the Taishō era of Japanese colonial rule, after local community leader Song Ronghua and others successfully petitioned for a school to serve the area; its first principal was Japanese administrator Suga Umetaro. Over the following century, the school changed names repeatedly as Taiwan's political landscape shifted — from Dalun Public School (1941) to Hsinchu County's Zhongli Township Dalun Elementary (1946, after retrocession), then Taoyuan County's version (1950), Taoyuan City's Zhongli City school (1968, under nine-year compulsory education), and finally its current name after Taoyuan's 2014 upgrade to a special municipality. The school celebrated its centennial with the participation of the city government.

📜 A Name That Tracked a Century of Politics
校名見證政局變遷
The school's name changed at least five times — from its 1941 colonial-era name through the postwar retrocession, the 1968 compulsory-education reform, and Taoyuan's 2014 city upgrade — each shift a marker of Taiwan's changing political landscape.
🙌 Founded by Local Petition
地方陳情設校
The school exists because local leader Song Ronghua and fellow community members successfully petitioned colonial authorities for a school, a grassroots origin rare among schools of its era.
One school, a century of Taiwan's history.
Dalun Elementary is one of Zhongli's oldest schools, and its century of continuous renaming — from a Japanese colonial public school, through postwar retrocession and county reorganization, to Taoyuan's 2014 upgrade to a special municipality — tracks the entire arc of Taiwan's 20th-century political history in miniature, all visible in a single school's paperwork.
