Over a century on Highway 11.
Sanmin Elementary traces its founding to 1905, during the Japanese colonial era, making it more than a century old and one of the founding schools of the Xingang/Chenggong fishing region. The school sits along Provincial Highway 11, the coastal road that links the towns of Taitung's east coast. In 2015, after enrollment at nearby Heping Elementary dropped too low to sustain an independent campus, Heping was absorbed into Sanmin as a branch campus.

In 2015, Sanmin absorbed the nearby Heping Elementary School as a branch campus after Heping's enrollment became too small to sustain, a common pattern for small rural schools along this coast.
A century in the Xingang fishing region.
As a school founded in 1905 during the Japanese colonial era, Sanmin reflects the long history of settlement in the Xingang/Chenggong fishing region, long before the modern harbor was completed in 1932 and the town later took its present name.
