Gongguan Elementary was founded on August 1, 1957, and has served the children of Gongguan Village on Green Island's north side ever since. The school has had ten principals over its history, and added a kindergarten class in 2004. As one of only two elementary schools on the island, it plays a central role in the small community's daily life, with graduates going on to Lyudao Junior High, the island's sole junior high school.
公館國小創立於民國46年（1957年）8月1日，長期服務綠島北側公館村的學童。歷任十位校長，並於民國93年（2004年）增設幼兒園班。作為全島僅有的兩所國小之一，該校在這個小型社區的日常生活中扮演核心角色，畢業生升學至全島唯一的國中——綠島國中。

Gongguan Elementary sits in Gongguan Village on Green Island's north side, directly adjacent to the island's Human Rights Memorial Park — the site of the former political-prisoner detention facilities from Taiwan's martial-law era. The park today serves as a place of remembrance and education about this chapter of Taiwan's history, and stands as one of the island's most visited sites alongside its natural attractions.
