Zhongzheng Elementary School is one of the oldest schools in Taipei, tracing back to 1908 as a satellite classroom of Dalongdong Public School named for the old Zhuzailun (朱厝崙) locality — four years before the founding of the Republic of China. It became an independent school in 1912 as "Zhuzailun Public School," a name that predates the district's current "Zhongshan" designation entirely.
The school took its current name, "Zhongzheng National School," in December 1945 shortly after Taiwan's retrocession, and became "Zhongzheng National Elementary School" in 1968 with the shift to nine-year compulsory education. Having had thirteen principals across more than a century of continuous operation, it is one of Taipei's few "century schools" (百年學校).
中正國小是臺北市歷史最悠久的學校之一，校史可追溯至1908年（明治41年，民前4年）大龍峒公學校朱厝崙分校，早於中華民國建國四年。1912年（民國元年）獨立設校，定名為「朱厝崙公學校」，這個校名早於中山區「中山」之名的出現。
1945年12月臺灣光復不久，學校更名為「中正國民學校」；1968年因九年國教實施，改稱「中正國民小學」。建校逾百年，歷經十三任校長，是臺北市少數的「百年學校」之一。
