Songshan Elementary traces its origins to 1898, when it opened as "國語傳習所錫口分教場" and was reorganized that October as "錫口公學校." It was renamed "松山公學校" in 1921 and took its current name in 1968 under the nine-year education reform. One of Taipei's seven "century-old schools," it spun off branch schools that later became independent — a 1905 Neihu branch (today's Neihu Elementary, independent in 1913) and a 1914 Nangang branch (today's Nangang Elementary, independent in 1918). A new building, "松山樓," was completed in 2013, built directly with the MRT Songshan–Xindian Line station above it.
松山國小創校可追溯至1898年（明治31年）的「國語傳習所錫口分教場」，同年10月改制為「錫口公學校」；大正10年（1921年）更名「松山公學校」，民國57年（1968年）九年國教改革後定名為現今校名。作為台北市七所百年老校之一，松山國小曾分出多所後來獨立的分校——1905年的內湖分校（1913年獨立，今內湖國小）以及1914年的南港分校（1918年獨立，今南港國小）。民國102年（2013年）落成的「松山樓」，與捷運松山新店線車站共構興建。
