Named for a neighborhood, not the other way around.

Shuanglian Elementary was founded on April 1, 1942, during the Japanese colonial era, originally named Meiji (明治) National School. It opened by borrowing classroom space at Daqiao National School (today's Daqiao Elementary) before its own campus on Ningxia Rd. Lane 91 was completed in 1943. The school was renamed Taipei Datong District Shuanglian National School in 1946, then Shuanglian National Elementary School in 1968. It takes its name from the "Shuanglian" (雙連/雙蓮) area of Dadaocheng, near today's Shuanglian MRT station.
