Shipai Elementary opened on April 1, 1922, as a branch classroom of Beitou Public School, becoming independent on April 1, 1926, as Shipai Public School. Enrollment once exceeded 6,000 students, making it historically one of Taiwan's largest elementary schools; today around 2,400 students attend across 108 classes. The school took its current Taipei City form in 1974, following the dissolution of the Yangmingshan Administration.
石牌國小創校於大正11年(1922年)4月1日,最初為北投公學校分教場,於大正15年(1926年)4月1日獨立設校,稱為石牌公學校。全盛時期學生人數曾逾6,000人,是台灣歷史上規模最大的國小之一;如今學生人數約2,400人,設有108班。學校於民國63年(1974年)陽明山管理局裁撤後,改制為現今的臺北市立學校名稱。
