A pioneer in girls' education.

Penglai Elementary traces to 1898 as the women's section of Dadaocheng Public School — the earlier of two dates recorded for the school — becoming independent in 1911 as Dadaocheng Girls' Public School It was renamed Penglai Public School in 1922, Penglai National School in 1941, Taipei Jiancheng District Penglai National Elementary School in 1968, and finally Taipei Datong District Penglai National Elementary School in 1990. As one of Taiwan's earliest schools dedicated to girls' elementary education, it is cited by National Museum of Taiwan History materials as an early advocate site for women's education, and celebrated its 100th anniversary with a visit and event attended by the sitting President of the Republic of China, according to a Presidential Office news release archive. The school completed a new administration building in 1986 and a PU running track in 1988.
