From fertilizer plant to trade park.

Nangang Elementary opened on April 1, 1914, as "錫口公學校南港分校," a branch of Songshan's Xikou Public School created after local leaders petitioned the colonial government in 1913 because students had to travel too far to Xikou. It became independent as "南港公學校" on March 31, 1918, and was renamed "南港國民小學" in 1968 when Nangang Township joined Taipei City. The oldest elementary school in Nangang District, it celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2014 and spun off two later-independent schools — a 1945 branch that became today's Yucheng Elementary, and a 1955 branch that became today's Jiuzhuang Elementary. Construction from 2007 to 2010 relocated the school to an entirely new campus within the Nangang Trade & Exhibition Park redevelopment zone, on land carved out of the former Taiwan Fertilizer Company Nangang plant site.
