Guting Elementary was founded in 1952. In August 1979, National Taiwan Normal University partnered with the Ministry of Education to establish an experimental music education class (音樂教育實驗班) at the school — one of Taiwan's earliest formal school-based music-talent programs. The school shares its “Guting” name with the neighboring but administratively separate Guting Junior High.
古亭國小創立於民國41年（1952年）。1979年8月，國立台灣師範大學與教育部合作，於本校成立「音樂教育實驗班」，是全台灣最早的校內音樂資優教育計畫之一。學校與鄰近但行政上各自獨立的古亭國中共用「古亭」之名。
