頭份國中於民國51年（1962年）獨立設校，民國98年（2009年）遷至現今中央路校址。創校校長訂定的校訓「勤奮誠樸」延續至今，成為學校辦學精神的核心。作為頭份市都會核心區規模較大的國中之一，學校持續服務苗栗縣人口最多的頭份市。
