Grown from a single classroom into a 60-year-old school.
Tongxing Elementary began in 1949 as a single-class branch of Wunei Elementary School, expanding to three classes by 1951 before gaining independence on August 1, 1962 as Tainan County Jiali Town Tongxing National School. It was renamed Tongxing Elementary School in 1968 and took its current full name in 2010. The school marked its 60th anniversary around 2022, an event attended by Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che, who thanked generations of staff and students for their contributions.
通興國小的前身是民國38年（1949年）塭內國小設立的單班分班，民國40年（1951年）擴增為三班，民國51年（1962年）8月1日正式獨立設校，定名「台南縣佳里鎮通興國民學校」，民國57年（1968年）改稱「通興國民小學」，2010年改為現全名。學校於2022年前後舉辦60週年校慶，臺南市長黃偉哲親自出席，感謝歷屆師生對學校的貢獻。

Tongxing Elementary grew out of Wunei Elementary as Jiali's western aquaculture-pond hamlets expanded — another example of the district's postwar school-splitting pattern. The wider district remains anchored by Jinluan Temple (金唐殿) and its Wangye "King Boat Festival" tradition, alongside Siraya Pingpu ancestor-spirit (阿立祖) worship in nearby hamlets.
