Tongfu Junior High School opened in August 1970 as a branch campus of Xinyi Junior High School, becoming a fully independent school in 1975. In the decades since, it has grown into what is widely described as Taiwan's largest indigenous-area junior high school, with approximately 70% of its student body drawn from the local mountain-indigenous Bunun community. This scale and identity make Tongfu a central institution for Bunun secondary education in Nantou County.
同富國中於民國59年（1970年）8月以信義國中分校形式創立，1975年（民國64年）正式獨立設校。歷經數十年發展，如今已成為公認全台灣規模最大的原住民地區國中，約七成學生來自當地布農族原住民社群。這樣的規模與定位，使同富國中成為南投縣布農族中等教育的核心機構。
