A school born inside a village temple.
Chang'an Elementary began in September 1948 as a branch class of Anshun National School, held inside Chang'an Village's ancestral temple. It became a full branch campus in 1950 and was formally established as an independent school, "Tainan City Annan District Chang'an National School," in August 1952, under founding principal Chen Chun-fa — who also founded nearby Tucheng Elementary. The school took its present name in 1968 under the nine-year compulsory education reform, and held a joint 50th-anniversary school and community sports day in December 2001.

Chang'an is one of three schools — with Heshun and Haidong — that trace their lineage back to historic Anshun Elementary.
Rooted in temple-centered hamlet culture.
Its founding inside a village ancestral temple in Chang'an Village reflects the close-knit, temple-centered hamlet culture typical of Annan's older farming and fishing communities before postwar urban expansion. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
