A campus that is a cross-section of Tainan's history.
Yongfu Elementary School was founded in 1915 as "Tainan Second Ordinary Higher Elementary School," originally serving Japanese children. Its campus site had earlier been the Qing-dynasty Taiwan Military Defense Circuit office (臺灣兵備道道署); under Japanese rule the same site was later used as Tainan Higher Commercial School and Tainan City Hall before finally becoming the school's grounds. A 2018 campus reconstruction project uncovered Qing-dynasty building remains, which were designated a Tainan municipal historic monument in 2021. The school compiled a full centennial history volume around 2015, marking over a century of continuous operation.
永福國小創校於1915年（大正4年），初名「臺南第二尋常高等小學」，原為日籍學童就讀。校地前身為清代「臺灣兵備道道署」；日治時期此地曾先後作為臺南高等商業學校及臺南市役所使用，其後才成為現今的校地。2018年校舍整建工程期間，挖掘出清代建築遺跡，2021年被指定為臺南市市定古蹟。校方於2015年前後編纂完成《永福國小百週年校史冊》，紀念創校逾百年的歷史。

Essayist and reformer Hu Shih (胡適) spent part of his childhood on campus, where his father's residence stood; he revisited in 1952 and personally planted a tree still known today as the "Hu Shih Tree."
