Shimen Elementary was founded on September 14, 1900, as "Anping Public School" (安平公學校) — one of the earliest modern schools in the Anping area. Its first classes were held inside Anping Matsu Temple (安平天后宮) starting December 22, 1900, under founding Japanese principal Sakane Jūjirō. The school went through multiple name changes across the Japanese colonial and postwar periods, becoming "Anping District First National School" in 1946 and finally "Shimen Elementary School" in 1968 to match Taiwan's nine-year compulsory education reform.
石門國小創立於1900年（明治33年）9月14日，初名「安平公學校」，是安平地區最早的現代學校之一。首任日籍校長為坂根十二郎，同年12月22日起，最初的課程借用安平天后宮空間上課。歷經日治與戰後多次更名，1946年改為「安平區第一國民學校」，1968年配合九年國教改制，定名為「石門國民小學」。
