A school of many names, one famous graduate.
Longtian Elementary School was founded in 1941 as a branch classroom and became a fully independent school in 1945. Through its history it carried several names — Guantian National School's No. 2 branch, then "Fanzitian National School," then "Guantian Central National School" — before settling on Longtian. The school counts former President of the Republic of China Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) among its alumni, an 18th-graduation-class graduate who grew up in nearby Xizhuang Village in Guantian. Beyond academics, Longtian emphasizes track and field as its core athletics program, and also runs a recorder ensemble, choir, and children's rhythm band for arts education.

Water chestnuts and a famous graduate.
The school sits in Guantian's water-chestnut-farming heartland — a crop so central to local identity that coverage of the school often notes the district's fame for the crop alongside its most famous alumnus, former President Chen Shui-bian. See the Tainan county page for more on the region.
