Sixty-four years independent, now a branch campus again.
Longshan Elementary began on August 1, 1960, as a branch of Qigu National School, becoming independent a year later, on August 1, 1961, as "臺南縣七股鄉龍山國民學校" under founding principal Zheng Muxun, and taking its present name in 1968. After 64 years as an independent school, it was converted back into a branch campus of Qigu Elementary — now called "七股國民小學龍山分校" — around 2025, following a review by the Tainan Education Bureau, as enrollment had dropped to about 22 students amid the aging and depopulation of Longshan village. Following pushback from local residents at a February public hearing, the Education Bureau agreed that students and teachers would continue attending classes on the original Longshan campus rather than being bused to Qigu Elementary, even after the administrative downgrade. The school has also long maintained a 15-year "sister school" partnership with a Longshan Elementary in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County.

🔄 A Recent Return to Branch-Campus Status
近期改制為分校
After 64 years as an independent school, Longshan was converted back into a branch of Qigu Elementary around 2025, once its enrollment had fallen to about 22 students — a direct, concrete marker of Qigu's rural depopulation.
🏫 Still Teaching on Its Original Campus
仍在原校區上課
After local pushback at a February public hearing, the Education Bureau agreed students and teachers would keep attending classes on the original Longshan campus rather than being bused elsewhere, even after the administrative downgrade.
🤝 A 15-Year Sister-School Partnership
十五年姊妹校情誼
Longshan has long been twinned as a "sister school" with a same-named Longshan Elementary in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, a cross-county partnership marked in recent years.
A marker of Qigu's shrinking fishing hamlets.
Longshan's recent demotion back to branch-campus status after six decades of independence is a direct, concrete marker of the demographic decline hitting Qigu's smaller fishing and farming hamlets, as the villages surrounding the district's black-faced spoonbill wetlands continue to age and shrink. See the Tainan city page for more on the region.
