A century in the heart of Sikunshen fishing village.
Longgang Elementary School was founded on April 1, 1919, as a satellite classroom of Yancheng Public School, using a local temple as its temporary classroom. It became independent in 1921 as "Xiakunshen Public School," was renamed "Masago National School" in 1941, became "Longgang National School" after 1945, and took its current name, Longgang Elementary, in 1968. The school sits in the old Sikunshen (四鯤鯓) fishing-village area; a footbridge behind the campus, known as the Longgang Skywalk, is also called the "Sikunshen Sea View Bridge." The neighboring Sikunshen Longshan Temple, founded in 1665, is a major community faith center — said to be the first temple in Taiwan to use the Four Great Ghost Kings as door guardians — and the school sits within this historic fishing-and-oyster-farming settlement, now marketed as the "Golden Coast" (Kunxiwan Cultural Park).
