A century marked in the shape of a grain silo.

Hejian Elementary was founded on April 1, 1920 (民國9年), originally as "下營鄉公學校麻豆寮分校," becoming independent in April 1921 (民國10年) as "麻豆寮公學校"; it took its current name after the 2010 Tainan county-city merger. The school celebrated its 100th anniversary around 2020–2021 with a newly built school building whose design was inspired by the shape of a traditional grain silo (穀倉) — a direct architectural nod to the rice-farming heritage of Madouliao village, in the same agricultural district that made Xiaying famous for its geese, black beans, and pomelo. The centennial celebration and new-building dedication drew local and national news coverage, and Tainan mayor Huang Wei-che attended the ceremony. The school runs ongoing cultural-heritage education programs.
